The ongoing violent riots in Los Angeles have produced some shocking images of masked protesters burning cars and clashing with law enforcement over illegal immigrant deportation. But according to some Alabama Democrats, it’s “AI generated” propaganda meant to paint a “peaceful protest” in a negative light.
On Sunday, the vice chair of the Alabama Democratic Party, Tabitha Isner, defended the LA riots and criticized President Donald Trump’s efforts to stem the violence, which she said could lead to civil war.
“Trump says that any interference in ICE detention raids will be treated as a 'form of rebellion,'" Isner posted on Facebook. "This country only works when peaceful protest is a right. When protest is deemed rebellion and troops are brought in to put it down, civil war is on the horizon.”
When shown a photo of the “peaceful protest” where a masked, shirtless man is seen standing on a smashed and graffitied car holding a Mexican flag, the Houston County Democratic Party claimed the image was generated by artificial intelligence.
“It's important to check because AI generated images are happening more and more often. We just need to be sure we're checking our facts,” Isner also responded.
The photo was taken by independent journalist Aldo Buttazzoni and was shared by multiple outlets and public figures, including Elon Musk.
Several of Alabama’s Republican leaders have condemned the riots and praised Trump for sending in the National Guard.
