Alabama drivers have seen a large increase at the pump since last week as the conflict between the United States and Iran continues.

According to AAA, the average price of unleaded gasoline was $3.76 per gallon in Alabama on Thursday. The average price of unleaded in Alabama was $3.54 one week ago. The average price was $2.79 one year ago.

The average price of diesel in Alabama was $5.01 per gallon on Thursday, up from $4.66 a gallon one week ago.

The national average of unleaded gasoline on Thursday was $4.09.

"The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline jumped 15 cents from last week to $4.09. Most states are now averaging $4 per gallon or higher. Rising crude oil prices are behind the spike at the pump. Volatility along the Strait of Hormuz and instability in the region have pushed crude oil prices into the $90 per barrel range and could continue driving up costs during the second half of summer," a spokesperson for AAA said in a statement on Thursday.
