Clay Ryan, the former vice chancellor of external affairs for the University of Alabama System, was recently named senior vice president of external affairs for Alabama Power following the retirement of Zeke Smith.
Smith announced his retirement last month after working at Alabama Power for over 40 years.
As senior vice chancellor for External Affairs for the University of Alabama System, Ryan was responsible for federal, state and local governmental affairs activities for the University of Alabama, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and UAB Health System.
A graduate of Birmingham-Southern College and the University of Alabama School of Law, Ryan also holds a seat on the board of directors of the Business Council of Alabama and chairs the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama's Roundtable.
"Clay is a proven leader who shares our commitment to serving the state," said Alabama Power president and CEO Jeff Peoples. "We look forward to working together to meet the current and future needs of our customers."
