R.B. Walker resigned recently as Alabama Power’s governmental affairs director to pursue other opportunities.

Walker’s resignation was confirmed by multiple sources to 1819 News on Tuesday.

Walker's resignation comes a couple of weeks after a phone call between Walker and John Dodd, an Energy Alabama policy manager, was leaked to multiple media outlets. The phone call largely centered on legislation pushed by Alabama Power and other allies to transition the Public Service Commission (PSC) from elected commissioners to appointed commissioners.

The PSC is a three-member, elected state regulatory agency that regulates utility companies.

The PSC appointment bill stalled in the House and never caught traction in the Senate. State Sen. Pro-Tem Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman) told reporters last week there was “no scenario” in which the bill could pass this session.

A spokesperson for Alabama Power didn’t immediately return a request for comment from 1819 News on Tuesday.
