Following Monday night's unprecedented raid of former President Donald Trump's residence in Florida by the FBI, several Alabama Republican leaders released statements denouncing the raid and supporting President Trump.
“This unprecedented search and seizure at the residence of a former President of the United States shows a clear double standard by those leading the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI),” said U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer (R-AL06).
“These actions by the FBI further erode confidence in what used to be one of the most well-respected law enforcement agencies in the world and demonstrates the length the Biden Administration and the Democrats will go to destroy their political opponents.”
“There were no evening raids of residences or seizures of documents when Hillary Clinton and her lawyers held classified emails on a private server or after she had that server wiped while the DOJ sat by and waited for it to be turned over,” Palmer continued. “... This contrast shows that we live in a two-tiered justice system where evidence of wrongdoing doesn’t matter, only your political beliefs.”
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) said, “An FBI search of a former president’s home is an unprecedented act, and as a former president, Trump deserved the courtesy of reasonable steps to prevent the execution of the search from becoming a circus. Many Americans rightfully have questions, and I’m one of them.
"We need answers and as much transparency as possible from the Department of Justice to ensure that these investigative steps are credible and necessary. What the FBI has better be serious, because ordering federal agents to enter the home of a former president is a big deal, and we risk sending a signal of politically-charged instability to the world at a very dangerous time.”
Calling the incident "unconscionable," Alabama Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth (R) said, "It’s obvious the liberals, RINOs and fake news media want to destroy Donald Trump ... Those kinds of political attacks take place in Third World banana republics, not the USA.”
Congressman Mike Rogers (R-AL03) called for all Americans to be concerned at the "Democrats' political weaponization of the FBI and Department of Justice."
“Conducting an FBI raid on the residence of a former President three months before an election is a clear abuse of power and a threat to our democracy," Rogers said. "The left has gone to unimaginable lows to attack President Trump. ... Congress will investigate and those within the Biden administration, who orchestrated this political hit, will be held accountable."
The Alabama Republican Party agreed that the incident was "gravely concerning," stating that the FBI raid was a "clear use of excessive force" and noting that "Republicans are harassed and demonized, while Democrat officials get a pass." The party called for an end of the "abuse of power" and urged holding Democrats accountable "both legally and at the ballot box."
Congressman Barry Moore (R-AL02) shared on social media that this raid signals that "Constitutional protections are endangered beyond any point in generations."
“Every single American should be outraged at what happened today in Florida,” Moore said. “No perceived enemy of this lawless administration — whether a concerned parent deemed a 'domestic terrorist,' a struggling taxpayer, or a political rival - is safe from the full force of the federal government being used to persecute them.”
“An FBI raid on a former president’s private residence is totally unprecedented,” said Congressman Jerry Carl (R-AL01). “This is a dark day in American history, and it’s no surprise Americans have lost trust in the FBI and the Department of Justice. These are the same corrupt agencies that knowingly lied to Americans about Russian 'collusion,' have protected Hillary Clinton and Hunter Biden, and have used their power to target political opponents of the Biden and Clinton crime families. The American people deserve answers now!”
“Now we know the first order of business when the Republicans retake the House,” said Trump confidante former State Rep. Perry O. Hooper Jr. (R-Montgomery).
“Impeach Biden on day one. Sending the FBI to ransack your political opponent's house is right out of a third world dictator’s playbook. This is a partisan witch hunt at a scope never before seen in the history of our Republic. The Department of Justice has been weaponized. ... This in not only about Donald J Trump who is beating Biden in all the polls, but about an administration drunk on power out to silence the opposition at all costs. Biden has declared war on 74 million Trump voters.
“Republicans must win both Houses of Congress in November to stop the corruption and restore the rule of law. ... When Republicans take control we will follow the facts and leave no stone unturned.”
The former president is already under investigation by the partisan Jan. 6 Committee. The Congressional committee, hand-selected by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-California), has been investigating the former president for months and has reportedly forwarded materials to the Justice Department suggesting misconduct on the part of the former president, his closest advisors and even some Republican members of Congress.
To date there still have been no formal investigations of Hunter Biden and the allegations that the president's son used his influence with the then vice president for his own personal gain. There has also been no formal investigation of allegations of widespread election fraud in the 2020 election. These are both subjects that the Justice Department appears to have no interesting in investigating.
