Floyd and Vera Hill, an elderly couple, were inside their Marion County home in 2004 when they were brutally attacked, leading to their deaths.

Floyd Hill, 87, was stabbed and beaten, leaving fatal wounds to his head and neck. Vera Hill, 72, had horrific head trauma and died 12 weeks later.

Prosecutors at the time said the person responsible was Jamie Mills, along with his wife. The Mills beat the couple to death so he could steal money and medications.

Mills was eventually convicted and has been sitting on Alabama’s death row since.

But that could change soon. Governor Kay Ivey has set a timeframe for the lethal injection of Mills. The timeframe is between 12 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, and 6 a.m. on Friday, May 31.

Attorneys for Mills had argued prosecutorial misconduct, but that motion was denied.

Mills' wife signed a plea deal and testified against her husband to avoid a similar fate.

Ivey says she has no plans to grant clemency in the case.
