Alabama’s presidential electors will likely have little drama when they meet in Montgomery on December 17 to cast their votes for the 47th president.

All nine of Alabama’s electors will vote for Donald J. Trump for President and JD Vance for Vice President.

The Trump-Vance ticket carried the state's popular vote, thus capturing all nine of Alabama’s electoral votes under the winner-take-all system.

Each state has one electoral vote for each of its congressional districts – that would be seven in Alabama – plus two additional votes. Those two votes over and above the number of congress members technically stand for the two U.S. Senate members, although the senators have nothing to do with the process. Alabama has nine total members in the Washington delegation and, thus, nine electors.

The electors will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at noon and go through the formality of casting their nine votes. The voting will be conducted in the historical State House chambers in the state capitol building in Montgomery.

The U.S. Constitution mandates that electors vote on the first Tuesday after the second Wednesday in December following the presidential general election. The winner of 270 electoral votes will be the winner of the presidency, so electoral voting, while a foregone conclusion, is the technical election.

Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen (R-Troy) will conduct the proceeding. Gov. Kay Ivey (R-Montgomery) will also make remarks.

The Trump-Vance ticket carried Alabama with 1,462,616 votes to the Harris-Walz ticket with 772,412 votes.

The Alabama Republican Party is hosting a lunch for invited guests after the electoral vote. It will be held in the large meeting room behind the old House chamber.
