“A good Senator then, a good Senator again.”

That could well be the campaign theme for Semmes' Rusty Glover. He previously served in the State House and State Senate. Now, there is an open seat in West Mobile County’s Senate District 34. Glover is seeking to return to his old seat.

Glover took a step in that direction Tuesday when he received the endorsement of the Mobile County Chapter of ALFA, the Alabama Farmers Federation.

The seat Glover is seeking is now held by State Sen. Jack Williams (R-Wilmer). Williams has announced he is not running for re-election to the Senate. Instead, he will run statewide for the open seat of Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries. Present Ag Commissioner Rick Pate is term-limited and thus barred from running for a third consecutive term. Instead, he is running for lieutenant governor.

The president of the Mobile County Farmers Federation, Art Sessions, spoke about the endorsement of Glover, saying, “Rusty Glover has served in the Legislature before, so we know who and what he is – a true conservative who will represent the farmers and the people of this district with honesty and integrity. We are excited he is running again and are proud to support him in his efforts.”

Glover says his voting record in the legislature was “100% pro-life and 100% pro-second amendment.” He was a strong supporter of small businesses and farmers. He opposed tax increases.

The Mobile County chapter of ALFA praised Glover’s established trust with the local farming community.

Glover worked as a teacher and coach for 25 years at Mary G. Montgomery High School in Semmes. He and his wife of 35 years, Connie, have two daughters and three grandchildren. They attend Wilmer Baptist Church.

Also running for the District 34 senate seat is former Mobile County Board of Education member Doug Harwell. He ran for Mobile County Commission last year against Commissioner Connie Hudson but fell short.

Alabama’s Republican primary is May 19, 2026. The general election is scheduled for November 3, 2026. Senate District 34 is heavily Republican.
