The "Resolution to Defend America's Future As a Republic" passed with 82% support at the Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) summer meeting in Montgomery.

The resolution highlights the Marxist assault on school children and calls for the following three actions: severing ties with the American School Counselors Association, the National Association of School Psychologists, and other woke counseling organizations; mandating students learn about the true history of Communism; and taking CNN10 out of state schools.

In comments to 1819 News, Diana Crews, one of the resolution's sponsors, said Alabama needs to disassociate from "woke" national organizations just like it did with the Alabama Library Association.

On its website, the American School Counselors Association promotes "anti-racism" and "gender equity," and the National Association of School Psychologists promotes "Gender and Sexual Orientation Diversity in Children and Adolescents in Schools" on its website.

Crews pointed to Alabama's southern neighbor as an example. In April, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) signed a law requiring students to be taught "the dangers and evils of Communism" and the "unprecedented death toll" of 20th-century Communist regimes. DeSantis stated, "We will not allow our students to live in ignorance, nor be indoctrinated by Communist apologists in schools."

Crews also cited a survey taken by a member of the Alabama State School Board several years ago. The survey asked three students to assess the 10 minutes of CNN (CNN10) shown in schools every day.

One student didn't pay attention to CNN10, another student was bothered by the programming, but a third said: "CNN10 is extremely disrespectful to some religions and races, heterosexuals, and political parties… CNN should not have the power to change the facts that need to be presented to students… Bullying broadcasts like CNN10 should not be allowed to be shown during class time."

Crews stressed the actions called for in the resolution were critical to combatting a larger Marxist agenda. She warned that socialists know "if they can change the minds of future generations, they won't even need an election in the future." Crews cited a declaration from Karl Marx, the father of Communism, who stated, "My object in life is to dethrone God and destroy capitalism."

Resolution co-sponsor Carol Jahns told 1819 News, "We do want as many branches of our government here in Alabama to be aware of the effect of socialism, and we know that where this begins is with our kids… We are being hit from all sides… there's not one part of our traditional American Dream experience that the left isn't trying to destroy."

Crews said, "Parents have been asking their legislators since 2010 to do something about what has been a takeover of our education system… We've got to face it: we are harming our communities, our nation. People's lives are at stake."
