The Alabama Republican Party (ALGOP) said they supported a campaign finance complaint filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Thursday against Vice President Kamala Harris' presidential campaign.
Multiple state Republican groups and other conservative groups filed an FEC complaint, which focuses on a transfer of $96 million in campaign funds from President Joe Biden, who dropped out of the race recently, to Harris. They argue the formal nomination process at the Democratic National Convention must take place before the money can be transferred.
"The Alabama Republican Party is incredibly supportive of Citizens United work on this issue. We have been in contact with them about how we can help. It's important that we hold the Harris campaign accountable and they follow the rule of law, just as we expect our Republican candidates to do," ALGOP chair John Wahl told 1819 News on Friday.
A spokesman for Citizens United said on Thursday, "The FEC must investigate this unlawful conversion of campaign funds and assets without delay."
"It speaks volumes that more so-called "good government" groups aren't sounding the alarm about this egregious violation. Looking the other way on this violation – just like the mainstream media has done with Joe Biden's declining health – is precisely the kind of double standard that the American people have grown sick and tired of in recent years," the Citizens United spokesperson said.
