After strong pressure from local citizens and social media and reporting by 1819 News, Allen Media Group (AMG) has reversed course and will keep local meteorologists in Huntsville and Tupelo.
AMG announced over the weekend that it was cutting local weather staff at its 22 TV stations, including Huntsville’s WAAY and Tupelo’s WTVA. Viewers in western Alabama watch the Tupelo affiliate.
A vocal public outcry opposing the cut immediately appeared on social media. 1819 News covered the issue with a series of articles about the developing story.

AMG’s plan was to “hub” local weather through the Atlanta-based The Weather Channel, which they also own.
There is no clear indication as to what AMG will do with about 20 other TV stations that they own across the country.
