Amy Dozier Minton announced on Thursday that she'd pursue the Republican nomination for State Senate District 10 in the 2026 election.
The seat is currently held by State Sen. Andrew Jones (R-Centre), who is running for re-election. Jesse Battles, an Etowah County native and local business owner, also announced his candidacy for the seat earlier in June.
Minton pledged in a statement to be a strong defender of the Second Amendment.
"I am thankful to live in Rainbow City, Alabama where my husband and I raised our two children. I have been married to Dr. Maury Minton for 35 years. Maury served as a United States Marine and is now a medical doctor. During his training for the USMC at Parris Island, I was living in Birmingham and had to defend myself against a home intruder. Due partly to that experience, I am a firm believer in the Second Amendment and the 'right to bear arms,'" Minton said. "While working at UAB, I completed my master's degree at night and ultimately retired from pharmaceutical sales with Bristol-Myers Squibb. While raising our two children, my husband returned to UAB School of Medicine at age 35. During this time, I took a break from traveling with pharmaceuticals and was given the privilege to support teachers and faculty within the Gadsden City School System where my children attended Eura Brown Elementary School. Much of my time was spent assisting children learning to read, which continues to be a passion of mine. I attribute our daughter Dr. Laura Minton Garton becoming a medical doctor at Mayo Hospital and our son David Minton becoming a software engineer with Trideum Aerospace Corporation in large part to the teachers, librarians, and coaches who fostered a love of reading and a hard work ethic."
According to her website, Minton opposes gambling legislation and "gender ideology and indoctrination of our children."
"I believe my experience working and serving as (1) previous Secretary and now Vice Chair of the Etowah County Republican Party, (2) representative of congressional seat 7 of District 10 on the Alabama State Executive Republican Committee, (3) member of Etowah County Library Board, and (4) member of the Alabama Public Library Services (APLS) Board appointed by Governor Ivey have given me the experience and contacts to get things accomplished for District 10. I am an active member of Meadowbrook Church in Gadsden and am guided by my Christian faith and the examples set forth by my parents Wayne and Betty Dozier. They have served in many churches across this area and in prison chaplain ministry and are currently serving with Celebrate Recovery, addiction and recovery programs. The Dozier family worked long hard hours for many generations in farming and running a successful small business. The Minton family has a strong work ethic, from working at Rock Run Iron Ore in Cherokee County, to Standard Coosa Thatcher textile near Duggar Mountain in the Piedmont area, to years of hard work in the forestry industry," Minton said. "My love and commitment to the veteran community is the result of many generations of my family's unselfish and sacrificial military service to our country, including Delta Force, Army, Navy, Air Force, and US Marine Reserve units. Freedom isn't free, and I understand that the war doesn't end when you return from the battlefield. Based on these life experiences, I am asking for the opportunity to be your Alabama District 10 Senator."
