State Sen. Andrew Jones (R-Centre) won the Republican primary for District 10 on Tuesday.
According to the Associated Press, Jones defeated Amy Minton by a margin of 54% to 46% with 85% of the vote counted.
Jones said on Facebook, “Huge win tonight! Thank you, thank you, thank you for making me your Republican nominee for State Senate! We were honored to win ALL THREE COUNTIES! To the Amy Minton supporters: I congratulate team Minton on a hard fought race and humbly ask to earn your vote and support on November 3rd.”
“To our supporters, volunteers, friends, and family: thank you so much for believing in us! It takes a team, and our team has been at it for over a year. The "Andrew and You" movement is alive and well, and we are grateful for each and every one of you.A special thank you goes out to my wonderful wife Summer who has been the MVP during this election cycle. In addition to helping run the campaign and coordinating volunteers, sign spots, door knocking, and social media, Summer has been a great sounding board for me. She has also been a trooper during all of the negativity and attacks,” Jones said. “ALFA came at us with everything they had: dark money, attacks, and outright lies. The social media warriors tried to spread misinformation and encourage people to vote for the most beatable Republican in November. Local powerbrokers worked behind the scenes to tip the scales. In the end, none of that mattered, because the PEOPLE had their say. The voters of District 10 know me and my values. I'm honored to be the people's candidate, and honored to be the torch bearer for our conservative, Republican platform in November. Now, the race is on for November 3rd. Let's roll!”
