The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office announced Monday the arrest of a school guidance counselor for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Jessica Brannon Herb, 39, of Jacksonville, is charged with two counts of a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19. Herb is the guidance counselor at Ashville High School.

Investigators said Herb was taken into custody around 1 p.m. Monday. She was being held on a $120,000 bond.

The St. Clair County School system sent out a bulletin to the entire Ashville community confirming the arrest.

"The St. Clair County Board of Education is cooperating fully with law enforcement in the investigation," Superintendent Justin Burns said. "The teacher has been placed on administrative leave."
