Lloyd Peeples announced his candidacy for the Alabama House of Representatives, representing House District 48, on Thursday.
Peeples is the senior trial counsel in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama, Since 2003, he has held numerous leadership roles there, including deputy chief, civil/criminal health care fraud coordinator, chief of the criminal division, and first Assistant United States Attorney. While serving as a manager, Peeples also continued to prosecute complex federal crimes, including the kidnappers of Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney and Joran van der Sloot. From 2012 until 2016, Lloyd served as chief executive officer of Container Service Corporation.
Peeples will challenge incumbent State Rep. Jim Carns (R-Vestavia Hills) in House District 48.
“I’ve spent most of my professional career serving the public as a federal prosecutor, standing beside victims, holding criminals accountable, and working to make our communities safer,” Peeples said. “I’m also a small business owner, a husband, and a dad raising two kids right here in this district. I want to help strengthen our district and state so that our children have more opportunities than we did and don’t leave after graduation because they don’t see a path to build their own careers here.”
He continued, “Alabama has some great leaders, but it also needs more problem solvers.”
“My commitment is simple: every dollar the state spends should deliver real value to the people it serves,” Peeples added. “The people of our district work hard, pay their taxes, and deserve to know their money is being used wisely. No matter how accountable government tries to be, there will always be waste and misplaced priorities. In Montgomery, I’ll fight to eliminate waste, reduce unnecessary bureaucracy, improve transparency, and focus on results driven spending - making government more efficient and delivering more back to our communities without cutting essential services.”
