The tragic kidnapping and murder of Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney shocked the state. Now, seven years later, Cupake's mother, April Thomas, is speaking out in support of Lloyd Peeples, the prosecutor in that case, endorsing him for State House District 48.

Beth Holloway, mother of Natalee Holloway, made her first-ever political endorsement on Thursday, supporting Lloyd Peeples. Peeples is challenging incumbent Jim Carns in State House District 48.

State Rep. Jim Carns (R-Vestavia Hills) has taken to Facebook to respond to a mail piece from his opponent Lloyd Peeples for House District 48 that points to his vote on Beau's Law a bill that was passed at the end of session.

Thursday, Lloyd Peeples qualified to run for House District 48. Peeples is the senior trial counsel in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Alabama. He announced his candidacy in November.

Lloyd Peeples, a businessman and former federal prosecutor, announced on Wednesday that he’s loaned his 2026 House District 48 campaign $250,000.
