Lloyd Peeples has defeated incumbent Jim Carns in the House District 48 race.
According to the Associated Press (AP), Peeples defeated Carns 56% to 38% with 95% of the vote counted.
Peeples is the senior trial counsel in the United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Alabama. Since 2003, he has held numerous leadership roles there, including deputy chief, civil/criminal health care fraud coordinator, chief of the criminal division, and first Assistant United States Attorney.
Towards the end of the campaign, Peeples received endorsements from both Kamille "Cupcake" McKinney's mother, April Thomas, and Beth Holloway, Natalee Holloway's mother. He also had the support of former U.S. Attorney Jay Town.
Peeples does not have a Democrat opponent in the November general election.
