The suspect in the murder of retired Auburn University professor Julie Gard Schnuelle had previous charges in Virginia, according to court documents.
Harold Dabney III, from Montgomery, now resides in Auburn, according to newly filed court documents.
This is not Dabney's first run-in with the law. Jail records show Dabney was arrested in Virginia Beach, Va, in 2023 and charged with possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
For the death of Schnuelle, he is charged with two counts of capital murder, one count of murder during a robbery and one count of murder during a kidnapping.
Dabney is accused of stealing a red Ford F-150 and fleeing the scene.
According to court documents, Dabney's father was also no stranger to law enforcement. Harold Dabney, Jr. was arrested multiple times for crimes ranging from drug trafficking to robbery.
His parents divorced when he was only four years old, and his father was arrested multiple times for not paying child support.
According to the Alabama Secretary of State's website, Harold Dabney III formed a company last year called Excellent Carriage LLC., although there is no evidence that the business was ever in operation.
Dabney is considered innocent until proven guilty.
