Auburn sophomore wide receiver Malcolm Simmons was arrested on Wednesday on charges of domestic assault with strangulation or suffocation, according to the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
Simmons’ bond is active and set at $20,000.
The Montgomery native recorded 451 yards on 40 receptions during his freshman campaign, complementing his freshman counterpart Cam Coleman, who tallied 598 yards – giving them over 1,000 yards combined their first year on the field.
Simmons is expected to be a valuable contributor to the Tigers’ offense this fall, alongside Coleman, Georgia Tech transfer Eric Singleton, Jr. and Wake Forest transfer Horatio Fields as a part of a wide receiver group that has been highly-praised throughout the offseason.
Simmons is the second Auburn football player to get arrested in just over a week’s time as redshirt freshman linebacker DJ Barber was arrested on account of trafficking marijuana, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and was later dismissed from the team.
