Auburn wide receiver Malcolm Simmons has been cleared to participate in team activities as Auburn starts preseason practices on Wednesday, head coach Hugh Freeze told reporters on Wednesday.
Simmons was arrested on July 16 in Lee County on domestic assault charges with strangulation or suffocation.
“Based on the information that I’ve been given from our campus administration who have knowledge of this situation, he’s been cleared to participate in team activities,” said Freeze.
The speedy sophomore is looking to build upon a strong freshman campaign in which he hauled in 40 receptions for 451 yards – ranking fifth in program history among freshman receivers – and three touchdowns.
Auburn starts preseason camp on Wednesday and will kick things off in Waco, Texas, against Baylor on August 29. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. on Fox.
