After a lopsided 42-3 win on Saturday night against Ball State, it seemed that Auburn got out of the night against a much inferior opponent with a relatively clean bill of health.

However, the Tigers' running back room took a big blow. And it was an unexpected one at that.

Head coach Hugh Freeze noted on Monday that Durell Robinson had a sort of “freak” incident that he noticed on Sunday morning. He had a large collection of blood on his thigh and was ultimately rushed to a hospital in Birmingham for a surgical procedure. Freeze did not provide an exact timetable for Robinson’s return, but he will be out for a few games nonetheless.

Robinson broke loose against Ball State for a 54-yard touchdown run.

This news comes after starting running back Damari Alston was held out against Ball State with a shoulder injury. Freeze said that Alston would be a game-time decision on Saturday against South Alabama. If he’s unable to go, that leaves the Tigers with three scholarship running backs in Omar Mabson II, a freshman who ran hard in limited action against Ball State, Jeremiah Cobb, who set a career-high in rushing yards with 121 and two touchdowns on Saturday, and true freshman Alvin Henderson.

Starting kicker Towns McGough hobbled off the field on Saturday after a miss on a 51-yard attempt and did not return. It was an apparent ankle injury, and Southern Miss transfer Connor Gibbs handled kickoff duties the remainder of the night.

Freeze said on Monday that McGough “will be OK,” and that he was moving around well on Monday morning.

Auburn will kick off against South Alabama at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday in its annual homecoming game. SECN will carry the broadcast.
