As the dust settles on Hugh Freeze's firing as Auburn University's football coach, one of his daughters took to social media to sound off about the "reality of getting fired in the SEC."

In 2023, New Mexico State University (NMSU), led by then-starting quarterback Diego Pavia, defeated first-year head coach Hugh Freeze's Auburn team 31-10 for one of the biggest upset wins in the program's history.

During a Monday appearance on WJOX FM's "McElroy & Cubelic in the Morning," ESPN's Paul Finebaum said Auburn had "no choice" but to fire head football coach Hugh Freeze after an abysmal outing at home versus Kentucky over the weekend.

After a 10-3 defeat at the hands of Kentucky on Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium,  Hugh Freeze was relieved of his duties as Auburn’s head coach, per multiple reports on Sunday evening. 

According to multiple reports, Freeze has been fired in the midst of his third season as head coach of the Tigers. Defensive coordinator DJ Durkin will assume interim head coaching duties for the remainder of the season, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.

The Tigers rank fifth nationally in run defense, allowing just 84.1 yards per game on the ground. They are second in the SEC in that regard, despite facing four of the top five rushing offenses the last four weeks.

4 things to look for in Auburn’s matchup against No. 16 Missouri 

Auburn is expected to continue forward with quarterback Jackson Arnold on Saturday against No. 16 Missouri.

Auburn running back and team captain Damari Alston is no longer with the team, head coach Hugh Freeze confirmed on Monday.
