The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Jefferson County Animal Control are investigating the death of a man after an autopsy revealed a pack of dogs killed him.
Tuesday morning, Joe Cleveland Scott, 65, of McDonald's Chapel, was found dead on Iceland Avenue near Utica Place. A pack of dogs was found surrounding his body, and animal control was able to trap the dogs.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office revealed Wednesday morning that an autopsy revealed the cause of death.
"The decedent was a pedestrian who was attacked by multiple dogs in the McDonald's Chapel Community," Coroner Bill Yates said. "An autopsy has found the death is due to the injuries the decedent sustained during the dog attack."
The sheriff's office said they got the call around 6:50 a.m. after a passerby spotted the body. Deputies had to call in animal control because the dogs were not allowing them to approach the body. In all, six dogs were captured.
