It wasn’t meant to be for Bahama Bob’s Beach Side Café in Gulf Shores to reopen in time for Spring Break.

The iconic restaurant was severely damaged by a fire last summer and has been closed since. Construction was underway, and at the beginning of the year, the owners hoped to be open just in time to cater to the Spring Break crowd. However, that didn’t happen.

Charles Spellman, one of the restaurant's owners, said the delay is due to “typical construction” challenges. However, things are on track to be completed within three weeks. After construction wraps, Spellman said he will still have to take time to get things set up before they can open.

A vape thrown in the garbage is the suspected cause of the July 2023 fire. People were at the restaurant at the time, and fire billowing out of the building was caught on camera.

No date is being set for the reopening because Spellman said you never know what could happen.

There will be some minor changes and additions to the menu when Bahama Bob's reopens, but Spellman said they still plan to serve customers that feel good, beachy feeling they've always had.
