Governor Kay Ivey-appointed Baldwin County Sheriff Anthony Lowery will seek a full term as sheriff. Lowery made the announcement Monday.

"I'm proud of what we've accomplished, but I'm even more motivated by what lies ahead," Lowery said. "Baldwin County is growing, and with that growth comes greater challenges. I've been encouraged by the support from federal authorities in removing illegal residents, but I remain concerned about rising crime pressures from neighboring areas. That's why I'm committed to growing our force and, with it, strengthening public safety.

Lowery was chief deputy at the time of his appointment to sheriff in 2024 after Sheriff Huey "Hoss" Mack retired.

He has nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience and has been with Baldwin County for nearly 20 years.

Before becoming a Baldwin County deputy, Lowery served as a chief investigator with the Baldwin County District Attorney's Office.

Lowery has been responsible for a multi-agency partnership placing safety officers in schools and has been on the frontlines helping Homeland Security remove illegal aliens and international and regional gangs, including drug cartels, from the county.

Since becoming sheriff just months ago, Lowery has overseen the addition of 44 new law enforcement officers and 58 corrections officers.

"The hard work and dedication from our outstanding deputies is what will continue to protect Baldwin County," Lowery continued. "By investing in our people and our assets, we're not just protecting lives—we're safeguarding the peace, homes, and way of life our citizens value. 'To Protect and Serve' isn't just a slogan—it's a promise I make every time I put on the badge."

Lowery is a graduate of Auburn University. He served as president of the Alabama chapter of the FBI National Academy and completed the FBI's Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar. He serves as vice chairman of the Baldwin County 911 Board and is a charter member of the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office Foundation.

Lowery is a charter member and past president of the Central Baldwin Sunset Rotary Club, where he received a Paul Harris Fellow award.

Lowery and his wife of 28 years, Tonya, are small business owners in Elberta. They have two adult children, Avery and Camryn.
