While many were disappointed and confused when former U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) withdrew as Donald Trump's Attorney General nominee, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) said Gaetz's replacement, Pam Bondi, is just as good an option, if not better.

During a Friday appearance on NewsTalk 93.1's "Alabama Unfiltered," Moore explained how Bondi, a former Florida Attorney General, was a solid choice for AG after Gaetz removed his name from consideration.

"She [Bondi] has helped Trump along the way," he said. "She's been very, a solid in the Make America Great Again Caucus, if you will. She's one of the people I think we can trust."

The relevant portion begins around the 2:30 mark.

Moore said Trump learned his lesson after his AG pick in 2017, former U.S. Senator from Alabama Jeff Sessions, recused himself from the Russia collusion investigations.

"I think Trump realized from that that there may be some decent people that are in the system already, but we really have to bring people who are not afraid of what might be said about them or the attacks that they may come under," Moore said. "To truly drain the swamp, it's going to take some pretty aggressive effort, and I think Pam Bondi will be that."

Moore said Bondi wouldn't have to navigate the same political minefield during her confirmation as Gaetz would after he stirred up bad blood during his motion to vacate U.S. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from the House Speaker position.

"It goes back to some of the things Geatz did when he was in the House that Pam Bondi is not now carrying that over her," Moore said.

He added that Gaetz's decision to withdraw from AG consideration was most likely to stop distracting from Trump's agenda and to ensure the president-elect could get to work on day one of his administration. Moore also said he wouldn't rule out seeing Gaetz serve Trump in some future capacity.
