On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) released a 30-second spot that apparently responds to his opponent in the first congressional district Republican primary, U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile).

Last month, a Carl spot airing throughout the first congressional district proclaimed Moore was "not a conservative."

In the recently released spot, Moore responds to the charges and claims Carl's motivation to go negative is because he is "behind."

"I'm Congressman Barry Moore, and I'm here to shoot straight," he said. "These campaign ads are downright dishonest saying I'm against a secure border when I co-sponsored HR2, one of the toughest border bills in history, saying I betrayed Trump when I was the first to endorse him in the nation. I have stood with him every step of the way."

"When a candidate goes negative, you know they're behind," Moore continued. "As a member of the House Freedom Caucus, I am fighting the status quo, and they will stop at nothing to take me out. If you can shoot straight about your own record, there's no need to distort someone else's. I'm Barry Moore, and I approved this message."
