On Friday, the Alabama Policy Institute (API) announced that 2016 Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson would be the keynote speaker at its 35th Anniversary Dinner later this year.
The event is scheduled for September 26 at The Club in Birmingham.
Carson is on former President Donald Trump's vice presidential shortlist for the 2024 presidential election.
API president and CEO Stephanie Holden Smith touted Carson as a "well-respected conservative leader" and expressed excitement to host the Carson family.
“API is thrilled to have Ben Carson headline our 35th Anniversary Celebration! In addition to being a world renowned neurosurgeon and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, Dr. Carson is a well-respected conservative leader in our nation. Dr. Carson has authored 11 books; he and his wife, Candy, recently authored The Perilous Fight regarding overcoming the war on the American family. We are excited to welcome the Carsons back to Alabama this fall!”
Carson is the founder and chairman of the American Cornerstone Institute, a new think tank with the mission to promote the four founding principles that are cornerstones of our country: faith, liberty, community and life. He most recently served as the 17th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
