Birmingham-Southern running back Jon Lewis is the lone underclassman selected as a semifinalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, which honors the most outstanding player in NCAA Division III.

Fifteen players are chosen as semifinalists, and 14 are seniors. Lewis is a 5-foot-10, 194-pound sophomore who is the country’s leading rusher in Division III. Lewis rushed for 1,558 yards on 222 carries with 17 touchdowns in 10 games. He set a school record with 341 yards and four touchdowns rushing in a win over Centre College.

A 40-member panel will vote on the award, with fan balloting accounting for the 42nd ballot. Fans can vote on through Dec. 3. Five finalists will be announced on Dec. 7.
