Catherine Kenny, of Montgomery, got a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Maxwell Air Force Base.

Prior to the Beyond the Horizon Air & Space show with the Blue Angels, Kenney was given a ride in a fighter aircraft.

The Blue Angels also presented Kenny with a certificate and honored her as one of Alabama's hometown heroes.

"Catherine has been an educator for 26 years, making significant and enduring contributions to the school system and the community," a press release stated. "She helped develop the Civil Air Patrol Aerospace Connections in Education curriculum, which has impacted almost 800,000 students since the program's inception in 2007. Catherine serves as an Advisory Council member for Right of Passage, a female youth detention center at Mt. Meigs, Alabama, and as a volunteer for Reality and Truth Ministries serving meals to Montgomery's homeless community."

The presentation was part of the Blue Angels' Key Influencer Program, which awards those who stand out through hard work and dedication to others and their communities.

A Key Influencer is named the day before every airshow.
