The Board of Dental Examiners of Alabama unanimously voted on Wednesday to hire Stephen Morris as their new executive director.

The hiring is effective March 31. The Board’s previous executive director, Blake Strickland, resigned in December. A state audit of the Board of Dental Examiners of Alabama released in August found numerous instances of noncompliance with state laws and regulations.

Before joining the Board of Dental Examiners of Alabama, Morris served as the director of governmental affairs and special assistant to the Adjutant General at the Alabama National Guard since February 2022.

“I’m honored to step into this role and eager to collaborate with the Board, staff, practitioners, and the State to elevate Board of Dental Examiners of Alabama as a model regulatory board in Alabama,” Morris said.

According to the Board of Dental Examiners of Alabama, Morris will oversee the administration and enforcement of state dental regulations, support the Board’s initiatives, and work closely with dental professionals to uphold public health and safety.

“We are excited to welcome Mr. Morris to the Board,” said Dr. Melodie Jones, President of the Board of Dental Examiners of Alabama. “His leadership and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to serve the dental community and the people of Alabama.”
