A body was found in an abandoned house in Fairfield Tuesday evening by firefighters responding to a fire at the home.
According to reports, the home was located on 44th Street.
After firefighters with the Fairfield Fire Department responded around 6:18 p.m. and extinguished the fire, the first responders discovered the body inside.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), residents of the area reported seeing an unknown male around the home for around a week, but the JCSO was unclear about what they believed the man was doing.
After the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office arrived at the scene, officials brought the body to the coroner’s officer.
This is an ongoing investigation involving multiple agencies, and the victim's name has not yet been released.
