U.S. Sens. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) and Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) reacted on Tuesday to the Public Service Commission’s approval of a two-year rate freeze proposed by Alabama Power.
The commission approved the rate freeze at a meeting in Montgomery on Tuesday.
“You know, I’m glad to see Alabama Power freezing rates for two years through 2027. You know we have an abundance of riches in Alabama when it comes to energy, including coal, natural gas, hydro, and nuclear power plants,” Tuberville said in a statement.
“Moving forward, we have to focus on cutting regulations. Alabama has the opportunity to lead the nation in recruiting new manufacturing and jobs while focusing on a lower cost of living for our citizens and providing them with more opportunities for a higher standard of living," he added. "That all starts with energy dominance. I look forward to working with Alabama Power to ensure they continue to provide affordable and reliable power across our great state.”
Britt repeated concerns she had in November about Alabama having the highest power rates in the Southeast.
“I’m concerned that Alabama has the highest power rates in the Southeast,” Britt told 1819 News on Tuesday. “As we work diligently to roll back regulation and unleash energy dominance, I will continue to be focused on working with local and state partners to drive down energy costs for hardworking families across our state.”
