With multiple city council and board of education races in Huntsville now a little over two months away, candidate filing for the elections officially closed Tuesday evening.

On the ballot for Huntsville City Council District 2, incumbent David Little is facing off against Madison native Thomas Casez. Should Little win, it will be his second term on the council.

In District 3, Huntsville City Council president Jennie Robinson will be taking on Liliana Peinder and network engineer John Stuart. Robinson has served on the council since 2014.

For District 4, longtime incumbent Bill Kling will be competing against attorney Will Pylant and small business owner Nick Frevold.

In the Huntsville Board of Education District 2 election, voters will decide between incumbent Holly McCarty and Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering educator Matt Woolsey.

District 3's BOE race has undergone a shake-up after incumbent Andrea Alvarez announced on Tuesday evening that she would not be seeking reelection. With Alavarez out, the District 3 race is now between long-time educator Robert Person and Army veteran and former contracting officer Payten Redfearn.

In District 4, incumbent Ryan Renaud is running unopposed.

Municipal elections in Huntsville have been scheduled for August 25.
