On Tuesday, former AL-2 Republican congressional hopeful Caroleene Dobson withdrew her name from consideration to fill the Public Service Commission presidency, vacated by Twinkle Cavanaugh, who resigned to take a job with Trump's U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Multiple sources told 1819 News the appointment by Gov. Kay Ivey was a done deal. However, Dobson was said to have rejected a condition not to seek elected office while serving out Cavanaugh's term at the last minute.
Dobson did not return 1819 News' request for comment.
Dobson is believed to be considering a potential run for higher office in 2026.
Ivey spokeswoman Gina Maiola told 1819 News the process to find Cavanaugh's replacement was still ongoing.
"Governor Ivey is seeking to fill the Public Service Commission position with someone who is committed to fulfilling the duties of that specific office, and we expect to have an update soon," she said in a statement.
