A casting call has gone out for a racially charged movie being filmed this summer in the Birmingham area.

According to the casting notice posted by Mobile-based Goleman Casting, LLC, “Sundown Town” follows a group of “black college friends who take a wrong turn into a racially hostile town where local myths turn terrifyingly real.”

The movie's title is a reference to how, pre-1960s, some U.S. cities discouraged ethnic minorities from going out or staying in town at night.

Goleman Casting is looking to fill 28 non-union roles, including a “white-passing and flawlessly bougie woman,” an “albino black male,” a “racist cop” and the president of the United States.

Of the roles that specify race, 12 are white and seven are black.

Birmingham YouTuber Kinigra Deon is attached to write, direct and star in the movie as part of Tubi’s creator program and in partnership with actor Kevin Hart’s entertainment company Hartbeat, The Variety reported.

Deon announced the deal on her LinkedIn page eight months ago.

Sometimes referred to as the "Tyler Perry of YouTube," Deon's channel of short-form, scripted content boasts roughly 6 million subscribers.
