Throughout October, pro-life Catholic organization American Life League's (ALL) Marian Blue Wave initiative will be leading prayer for the closure of a 10,000-square-foot Planned Parenthood facility.

"The Birmingham, Alabama, Planned Parenthood is among the abortion giant's 34 mega facilities throughout the country," said Marian Blue Wave director Katie Brown. "These huge abortion sites are usually constructed under the guise of neighborhood revitalization, near university campuses or bordering states that limit abortion. Each is over 10,000 square feet and can commit abortions on hundreds of women each day."

Construction on the mega facility began in January 2019. It continued to be built throughout the year, despite the passage of the Human Life Protection Act (HLPA) by the Alabama Legislature that May, which imposed a near-total ban on abortion in the state.

The HLPA faced legal challenges at the time, and its implementation was delayed until 2022, when pro-abortion precedents established by the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade were overturned in Dobbs v. Jackson.

Now, it is illegal to perform an abortion in Alabama unless deemed absolutely necessary to prevent a serious health risk for the mother.

Brown said that the overturn of Roe v. Wade put an end to "a grave injustice imposed on this nation for nearly 50 years," but that abortions are still going to happen, especially in massive Planned Parenthood facilities like the one in Birmingham.

According to Planned Parenthood's website, abortion services are "unfortunately not available" at the Birmingham clinic.

Nevertheless, Brown said that Planned Parenthood facilities in states where abortion is illegal can still connect mothers to facilities in other states where they can terminate the unborn child's life.

Brown said that Planned Parenthood started hiring "patient navigators" after Roe v. Wade was overturned.

"These people kind of act, for lack of a better term, as an 'abortion travel agent,'" Brown said.

These patient navigators might even secure money, travel and childcare costs for mothers seeking abortions, according to Brown.

"While [abortion is] not happening in that Alabama facility, they're definitely facilitating it," said Brown.

ALL's Marian Blue Wave prays for the closure of a new abortion facility in a different state each month. ALL provides a prayer companion booklet with devotionals and prayers from priests to help Catholics pray to end abortion.

"We pray God will bring about the closing of these Planned Parenthood facilities, we pray for the preborn babies whose lives are ended at these facilities, and we pray for the protection of teenagers who are lured to these facilities and ushered into lives of sexual sin," Brown said.
