HUNTSVILLE — A Democratic candidate for Alabama's fifth congressional district hosted a sparsely attended LGBTQ-centered town hall event at Shenanigans Comedy Center in the Rocket City on Monday evening.
Jeremy Devito, of Athens, a self-proclaimed progressive and "proud member" of the terrorist organization Antifa, promoted "A Town Hall for Y’all of Us" on his campaign social media account with little public interaction.

In a broadcast format concealing dozens of empty chairs and less than 10 attendees in the room, Devito discussed topics relating to perceived discrimination against transgender individuals in Alabama.
"There's going to be a lot of damage that has to be undone. It's a really messy process of what they've done," Devito said of conservatives fighting the spread and influence of transgender ideology. "It's easy for the fascists to say, 'Oh, these people don't exist anymore.' The part that gets lost in the shuffle is the part where people like me, who actually give a shit, who care, are like, we're going to fix this. It's a real issue that's marginalizing people."
Should Devito win the Democratic primary, he will be facing off against incumbent U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville).
The general election for the fifth congressional district will be held on November 3.
