When the Alabama Association of School Boards withdrew from the National School Boards Association (NSBA), they made the decision to stand with the parents and students of Alabama. The NSBA’s call for federal government intervention in local matters once again displays how out of touch with reality the radical left agenda is.
NSBA’s core purpose is to assist local state boards of education in achieving their individual missions. They have clearly strayed from this purpose. When they should have been advocating for local control in education, they chose to instead advocate for federal intervention to address the new “domestic terrorist” organizations of concerned parents.
Parents have every right to be concerned about their children’s education, especially in today’s world. In the face of mandates, shutdowns, and critical race theory, parents now must stand up for their children because if they don’t, the radical left will continue to push their agenda of wokeness onto our children. The federal government's, and these special interest groups’, approach to education is wholly un-American.
Parents need to be put in charge of their children’s education again. The federal government has no right to act as a parent to our children in an effort to indoctrinate them. Measures must be taken to ensure local control over education is preserved and parents’ voices are amplified. This is why many conservative states have enacted school choice policies. Parents need to be in charge of their children’s education, and they need to have the ability to choose what’s right for their kids.
In addition, Governor DeSantis in Florida just rolled out his Stop the Woke Act, allowing parents to sue over the teaching of critical race theory. This gives power to parents in the fight against the woke agenda. Policies such as this not only give parents a voice in what their children are being taught but also give them the credibility to fight back and win in the courts. We need to fight for a "families first" education agenda here in Alabama.
When it comes to the education of our children, parents know best and should be allowed the freedom to choose in their children’s education. The woke agenda instills hate towards each other and this country and seeks to limit parental choice as much as possible. The radical left wants parents to stay silent and indifferent so that they may indoctrinate our children in their beliefs. We cannot stand by while they try to brainwash our kids. Parents can and must hold not only their school boards accountable but also their local and federal representatives. Alabama needs to empower parents and give them the liberty to choose their children’s education. Until then, we must continue to hold those in power accountable by fighting for parental rights in education.
