A group of citizens plans to hold a prayer meeting Wednesday at 11 a.m. on the front steps of the Alabama State House to pray for the upcoming legislative sessions.
The Alabama Citizens Action Program (ALCAP) is the prime sponsor of the prayer session.
The State House steps are located at 11 S. Union Street in Montgomery, behind the back of the state capitol building. The public is invited.
The prayer session is billed as "a time of prayer for and with our elected officials."
The session gavels in Tuesday. Lawmakers will meet for up to 30 legislative days or 105 calendar days.
Governor Kay Ivey is scheduled to give the annual State of the State address Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in the historical House chamber in the state capitol building. Limited public seating is available in the balcony; first come, first serve.
ALCAP has made the early session prayer meeting an annual event.
Conservative groups such as Eagle Forum of Alabama and the Common Sense Campaign have attended the prayer event.
Leading the prayer session will be ALCAP CEO Rev. Greg Davis. He has served as a Christian broadcaster for years, hosting "Priority Talk" on Birmingham and Cullman's WXJC radio. It reaches most of North Alabama.
