Club for Growth Action donated $315,000 to former Alabama Republican Party chairman John Wahl on Wednesday for his campaign to be the state's next lieutenant governor.

Club for Growth Action is the political action committee of Club for Growth, a national free-enterprise advocacy group.

The donation to Wahl was reported in a major contribution report filed with the Alabama Secretary of State's Office on Friday.

Wahl qualified to run for lieutenant governor in January after receiving President Donald Trump's endorsement. Wahl announced on Wednesday that he'd raised more than $1 million in the first day of his campaign for lieutenant governor.

Other qualified candidates in the GOP primary for Lieutenant Governor include Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen, Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries Rick Pate, Nicole Wadsworth, Dean Odle, Dr. Stewart Tankersley and Pat Bishop.

Current Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth is term-limited from seeking re-election.
