Cullman County voters narrowly rejected a new 15% sales tax on medical cannabis on Tuesday.

According to unofficial results from The Cullman Tribune, the local amendment failed, with 51.5% (19,108) voting no and 48.5% (17,971) voting yes.

On Tuesday night, Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker said on social media, “I was legally prohibited from taking a public position on this tax vote, but I appreciate the arguments on both sides.”

“It was important for the people to decide this issue. My staff and I will continue to work for the people of this county, clearing the backlog and seeking justice in court for crime victims,” Crocker said.

Alabama's medical cannabis program was passed into law in 2021 but hasn't been fully implemented due to ongoing litigation.
