The day Gov. Kay Ivey announced the special election date for Alabama’s House District 11, Cullman County resident and local business owner Heath Allbright declared his candidacy.
The election comes after former State Rep. and House Majority Whip Randall Shedd (R-Fairview) vacated his seat to join the staff of new State Sen. Pro-Tem Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman).
“I am running for Alabama House District 11 because I believe in the strength and potential of our community,” Allbright said. “As a lifelong resident of Cullman County, I have seen firsthand the challenges we face and the opportunities we can seize. I am ready to work with the people to ensure our district thrives — supporting families, schools and businesses while preserving the values that make District 11 home.”
A lifelong resident of Holly Pond, Allbright has worked in both the public and private sectors. He owns Brighton Forestry Services, a timber harvesting and reforestation company in his hometown. He also served two terms on the Cullman County Board of Education.
In his running announcement, Allbright pledged to tirelessly advocate for rural Alabama. His primary priorities include bolstering education funding, protecting constitutional rights, and promoting job creation through support for small businesses and infrastructure development.
“I want to be a representative who is approachable and accountable,” he continued. “Whether it’s fighting for our fair share of state resources or cutting through red tape to get things done, I will always put the people of District 11 first.”
Ivey’s special proclamation on Monday sets the special primary election for Tuesday, May 13. The special primary runoff, if necessary, is set for Tuesday, June 10, and the special general election for Tuesday, August 26.
The deadline for qualifying with major political parties will be Tuesday, March 11, at 5:00 p.m. The deadline for all independent candidates and minor parties is Tuesday, May 13, at 5:00 p.m.
