A man in the United States on a work visa caused a fiery crash that claimed the lives of a football coach and a woman who worked at Jack’s in Thomasville, authorities say.
Andril Dmyterko, 45, was driving a semi-truck for 4 US Transportation Company. He flew through a busy intersection on Tuesday just before noon, striking multiple vehicles.
The crash occurred on Highway 43 at the South Industrial Park Drive intersection. Dashcam video obtained by 1819 News captured the crash.
Ashley Marie Springer McDonald, 37, was killed on her way to work at Jack’s.
Woodie Earl Beck III, 53, the beloved head football coach at Wilcox Academy, was also killed.
Both were pronounced dead on the scene.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Wilcox Academy coach Woodie Beck has passed,” the Alabama Independent School Association stated. “He was loved by many and had a tremendous impact on the lives of young student-athletes.”
Dmyterko was charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter, and federal authorities have been alerted.
Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day told 1819 News there is no evidence of a medical episode causing the crash.
“There was a rumor that this was a medical episode because people can’t comprehend and believe someone would just blow through an intersection like that,” Day said.
Day said that incidents like this make you stop and take inventory of what is important in life. He said his prayers are with the families impacted and with first responders.
