An apartment manager in Decatur is facing first-degree theft of property charges after police claim she stole more than $45,000 from tenants, possibly up to $150,000.
According to court documents, in February, a representative of the Mitchell Company, who owns the Decatur apartment complex, filed a report with the Decatur Police Department (DPD). The representative claimed that Tina Dianne Bryant had stolen rent money directly from tenants. The missing funds came to light after a new-management audit led to multiple tenants being asked for rent which the tenants were sure they had already paid.
Authorities claim over $45,000 in personal checks, cash and money orders, all given to Bryant for rent, were deposited directly into her personal bank account. Missing funds in excess of $150,000 are also being investigated.
The theft allegedly occurred between January 2019 and December 2021.
On August 26, police obtained a warrant for Bryant’s arrest. She was arrested and charged with first-degree theft of property.
She was released from the Morgan County Jail on Tuesday after posting her $5,000 bond.
