A registered sex offender with a final notice for deportation has been apprehended in Fort Payne thanks to the combined efforts of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden announced Wednesday that Nixon Rubilio-Mayen was in HSI’s custody after being arrested without incident. However, the sheriff did not specify where Rubilio-Mayen was from or to where he was being deported.
“The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office continues to work closely with state and federal partners to enhance public safety and remove dangerous individuals from our communities,” the office said in a press release. “This cooperative effort reflects our ongoing commitment to protecting the citizens of DeKalb County and enforcing the rule of law.”
The sheriff’s office was also involved in the recent arrest of Arely Guzman for the alleged doxxing of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Following her arrest, Guzman was charged federally with trafficking illegal aliens in connection with a criminal group in Texas.

"I am extremely thankful for the strong working relationship we have with our federal partners,” Welden said of Rubilio-Mayen’s arrest. “Cooperation with agencies like Homeland Security Investigations allows us to better protect our community and ensure those who pose a threat to public safety are held accountable."
