Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall appointed a special prosecutor on Monday after 25th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Scott Slatton recused himself in the domestic violence case against State Rep. Tracy Estes (R-Winfield).

District Attorney Jeffrey Barksdale of the 34th Judicial Circuit will serve as the special prosecutor in the case.

The Marion County Sheriff's Department arrested Estes for domestic violence in the third degree in September. Estes pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the complaint, the alleged incident occurred around August 20. Estes allegedly threatened his wife, Christina Estes, verbally and "turned the heat on in the room where she was taking shelter trying to force her out of the room."

According to court documents, Estes has posted bail and been released from jail on bond. The case is set for trial on November 26.
