The Marion County Sheriff’s Department arrested State Rep.Tracy Estes (R-Winfield) for domestic violence in the third degree on Friday night.
According to court records obtained by WBRC, Estes allegedly verbally threatened to hurt his wife for more than two hours, beating on the door while she was inside a bedroom at their house.
Estes didn’t immediately return a request for comment from 1819 News on Friday night.
House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) said in a statement, “I’m aware of the situation concerning Rep. Estes and have full confidence that our justice system will determine an appropriate course of action.”
“Alabamians deserve the very best from their elected officials, and it’s my expectation that House Members are beyond reproach in both their professional and personal lives,” Ledbetter said.
