New details have been released following the arrest of a Dothan man accused of sending envelopes containing child pornography to lawmakers at the Alabama State House in Montgomery on Wednesday.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) announced on Wednesday that it was investigating suspicious letters containing pornographic images addressed and sent to lawmakers. Three in total were addressed to various lawmakers, and a fourth was addressed to Gov. Kay Ivey.
On Thursday, ALEA said that John Henry Watson, Jr, 54, of Dothan, had been arrested and charged with four counts of possession with intent to distribute child pornography.
According to the arrest record, Watson sent pictures depicting two minor children engaged in sexual acts. He is currently being held in the Houston County Jail on no bond.
According to ALEA, Watson was an examiner in the state driver's license division until his post-arrest resignation on Thursday.
Possessing child porn with the intent to distribute is a Class B felony in Alabama, carrying a penalty of 2-20 years in prison and up to a $30,000 fine.
