The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) announced on Wednesday an investigation into suspicious letters containing pornographic images sent to lawmakers at the Alabama State House in Montgomery.

ALEA stated that the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) responded to the State House in response to suspicious letters that were addressed to members of the Alabama House of Representatives. Each individual letter included several pornographic images.

Agents immediately identified a person of interest and are currently investigating.

Despite attempts, 1819 News was unable to determine which lawmakers received the letter or its content.

House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) released the following statement to 1819 News:

"It was brought to my attention this morning that a handful of House Members received packages in the mail containing expletive images and other inappropriate materials. These packages have been handed over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation. I appreciate all that ALEA does to protect members of the Legislature and have full faith in the agency's ability to conduct a thorough investigation into this unfortunate matter."
